Affordable, flexible warehouses for the building materials trade

Want to save on pallet storage rates? Want to erect a building quickly? Want to store high-demand building materials within easy reach? Temporary buildings offer affordable storage solutions for the building materials trade’s requirements.

Gravel, plastic, general cargo or bulky goods – the storage requirements are as varied as the building materials themselves. The individual goods differ not only in size, quantity and weight; their storage requirements are fundamentally different, from simple outdoor storage to storage in an insulated building with special protection against condensation. Block stacking and floor storage are used just as much as racking or high-bay facilities. In addition, storage is subject to strong seasonal fluctuations.

Increase stock range quickly and affordably

In recent months, prices for building materials have once again risen significantly. Builder’s merchants cannot pass every price increase on to customers, so savings have to be sought in other areas. At the same time, the need for fast, short-term building solutions has increased as companies want to increase their stock range and keep more goods in stock given the difficult procurement situation.

Temporary buildings beat steel buildings

For the building materials trade, which not only procures and stores the building materials but also picks them as required, it’s essential to choose the right building solution. Temporary buildings offer significant savings potential compared to steel buildings. They are quick to erect and are flexibly scalable. They can be used at short notice as simple transitional buildings to accommodate less sensitive goods from steel buildings so that expensive pallet storage spaces there can be used for other requirements. When the temporary building is no longer needed, it can – unlike a welded steel building – simply be dismantled and reassembled elsewhere. In this case, renting the building is particularly suitable. With the right fixtures and fittings, however, temporary buildings are also a cost-effective, long-lasting storage solution for building materials with special storage requirements.

One product – customised storage solutions

Temporary buildings from Herchenbach are erected in a modular construction system. The planning time is short, the assembly time for constructing 1000 m² of building is about one week.

  • The basic product can be flexibly adapted to the different requirements of the stored goods through different facility characteristics.
  • The temporary buildings consist of a framework of aluminium profiles. They are durable, but also significantly lighter and cheaper than comparable buildings made of steel.
  • The simplest warehouse solution is the Cover+ roofing. It can be used as a tunnel or passage for dry picking.
  • The choice of wall cladding determines whether the building will be used for heated or unheated storage.
  • The temporary buildings can be built with or without foundations. In many cases, inexpensive ground spike anchoring is sufficient. This is particularly suitable for buildings where floor storage or block stacking is planned.
  • In the case of special requirements from the building authority, the nature of the ground or because shelving units will be placed in the building, which exert a high load on a small area, pad or strip foundations as well as floor tiles are also possible.

Protection for temperature-insensitive goods: Safe from rain and hail in the non-insulated warehouse

Robust bulk materials can be stored outdoors. For goods that are not temperature-sensitive but still require weather protection, non-insulated warehouses with walls made of robust trapezoidal sheet metal offer an affordable solution. They not only protect the building materials from rain; the roof tarpaulin made of highly tear-resistant industrial PVC also provides protection from hail. The building height can be configured within the modular system. For floor storage of goods with low stackability, low-height temporary buildings are an affordable solution.

Condensation protection for wood and plaster: Interior tarpaulin

If there’s one thing building materials such as wood or plaster need above all, it’s to stay dry. Dry storage is essential to ensure the quality of the materials over long periods of time. Several additional products can be easily installed in the temporary building to meet the special storage requirements of moisture-sensitive building materials.

An inner tarpaulin can be inserted under the roofing to prevent dripping from the roof. This ensures that any condensation can only diffuse to the outside, protecting the stored goods. Condensation protection is included in the insulated roof tarpaulin as standard.

Heated storage for temperature-sensitive goods: Wall cladding with ISO panels

If it is worth heating the building because temperature-sensitive building materials are stored there or because work will be carried out there over long periods of time for picking, for example, wall cladding made of insulated panels is recommended. These sandwich panels – just like the trapezoidal sheets used in the non-insulated storage – are fixed in the aluminium profiles and offer excellent heat transfer values.

Why Herchenbach warehouses scores points for full service

Herchenbach's quick-assembly buildings are not just rapidly erected. By configuring them accordingly, they can also be easily adapted to the special storage requirements of different building materials. Thanks to their modular design, they are suitable as a temporary solution when more storage space is needed at short notice. Afterwards, they can be completely dismantled and the individual parts reused in a new building construction. As ‘permanent structures’, they are certified for a service life of up to 50 years.

As a full-service provider for the industry, Herchenbach can draw on expertise from thousands of building construction projects. Customers benefit from a personal contact person, optimised processes and customer service that is ready to respond to any construction-related queries and which remains available after the handover of the keys.
